Commercials Eligible for Local TV Academy Emmys

The San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of the National Television Academy reminds producers of local and regional commercials that they are eligible for Emmy consideration.

The official "Emmy Call for Entries" with rules and guidelines is available online at www.emmysf.tv.

The deadline for Emmy entries is Friday, January 20, 2006. Nominees will be announced in April and the Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.

Background Information:

Official Commercial Description from the Emmy Call for Entries:

Commercial - (Single Spot or Campaign)
For excellence in commercial production advertising a product, business or service that is conceived, written, created and produced in and for the local market. Spots may be between :05 and 2:00 in length. Program length commercials (infomercials) are not eligible.

Commercials must have been produced for airing in the Northern California/Reno, Nevada/Hawaii area.  If the commercial was produced for statewide or regional distribution, it may only be entered in one chapter's competition. Commercials for local chapter Emmys may not have been available for viewing by more than 50% of the U.S. television homes. Eligibility period covers the period of January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2005.

Emmy awards acknowledge individual excellence so companies are not eligible to enter. However, those who participate in the creative process, i.e. producer, director, videographer, writer, editor, etc. may enter the competition (with the permission of the producer).

Local Emmy entries are judged against a standard of excellence and do not compete against each other.  There may be one award, more than one award or no award given in an each area.

More information can be found in the official "Emmy Call for Entries" posted at the TV Academy's San Francisco Chapter website at: www.emmysf.tv.
