What are Blogs/webblogs, Wikis, PodCasts and RSS? What are the pitfalls and things to avoid? How are companies and the top Fortune 500 CEOs utilizing their personal journals to speak their mind? What is the evolution of Blogging into mainstream marketing strategy? Leveraging Blogs and Blogging for Marketing and how they are reshaping the marketing and media landscape. You’ll hear from top Blogging executives on their thoughts and ideas of where online journalism will evolve. You’ll leave with answers and action items on these topics along with an intimate understanding of weblogs and RSS.

Event Panel:
The event will be a panel discussion with four industry executives from leading Bay Area companies. Led by an industry expert our moderator will engage and lead a panel discussion of various topics affecting the Blogging community and their views on the marketing landscape. The panel presentation will be followed by a 20 minute Q&A opportunity for the audience.

Speaker Bios
Bill Flitter is founder and chief marketing officer of Pheedo. Bill is considered an industry expert on blogging, podcasting, RSS and online marketing trends and best practices and speaks regularly on these topics at industry events. Prior to Pheedo, Bill founded Email Shopping Network and directed its sales and marketing activities until its acquisition by eUniverse in 2002.

In addition to Pheedo and Email Shopping Network, Bill has started and helped build numerous early stage companies, developing hundreds of innovative products and services. Bill is also cofounder of Fastlane Ventures, a boutique management consulting firm focused on early-stage investments. Bill is the chairperson for the Blogging and RSS special interest group of the East Bay IT Group (eBIG.org).

Raised in Wisconsin, Bill graduated with a degree in Advertising from the University of Wisconsin. He founded the University of Wisconsin Interactive Advertising scholarship to reward outstanding excellence in this innovative field. Bill’s ruminations on a number of topics can be found on the Pheedo Blog at www.pheedo.info.

Brad Bowers is a founding partner of BlackInc Ventures, and long-time media executive with experience on both the publisher and agency side of the business. Prior to starting BlackInc Ventures in early 2004, Bowers worked at CNET Networks for eight years where he held various senior positions, including most recently Vice President of Worldwide Business Development and GM of North America for CNET Channel. Bowers spent two years living in Switzerland during his tenure with CNET Channel, and prior to this he served as Vice President of Business Development for CNET's Media Division. Bowers' duties included strategic planning where he generated revenue through commercial partnerships & acquisitions. Bowers successfully negotiated, signed, and oversaw the management of multi-million-dollar, multi-year, global partnerships with industry leaders such as HP, Dell, Yahoo!, Ingram Micro, and Tech Data. Prior to joining CNET, Bowers worked in the advertising industry, most recently for Anderson and Lembke on the Microsoft account, where in 1995 he was involved in the company's first online advertising campaigns including the launch of Windows 95 and of the Internet Explorer browser. Bowers received a BS in Management from Tulane University.

Nate Murdo
As Online Marketing Manager at Ubisoft, Nate is responsible for building buzz online for Ubisoft’s games, including through message boards, blogs, and other “viral” approaches. By leveraging the rapid nature of web-based communication and the dynamic nature of online communities, Nate and the team he is a part of are responsible for not only creating innovative marketing campaigns, but constantly evolving the techniques and approaches used.

Nate Mordo spent his formative dot-com years cutting his teeth at the uber-chic boutique web agency vivid Studios (lower case “v”, thank you very much) which specialized in designing and building “online experiences” for doomed startups, which you’ve all heard so much about. Despite the lack of success that many of vivid’s clients had, the company’s focus on user-centric design and community principles left its mark on Nate.

Following that, Nate spent several years at the beleaguered music-swapping startup, Napster. As a Product Manager, Nate worked on a number of key community features such as music recommendations, and a reputation system. As was the style at the time, many of these innovations failed to see the light of day due to Napster’s untimely demise.

After Napster Nate spent a brief time at the comparison shopping portal Epinions, helping with their online presence and tending to their community. Ultimately lured by a lifelong interest in interactive entertainment, Nate moved to the French game publisher Ubisoft where he has worked as a Community Manager, and Online Marketing Manager.

Nate has also been a Webby Awards judge in the Games category from 2002 – 2005.

Tom Foremski arrived in San Francisco in 1984, becoming one of the first European journalists to cover Silicon Valley.

He quickly established an international news agency, West Coast News, which provided leading publications around the world, such as The Financial Times, with breaking news, features, and analysis. He also published The Street- A View from the Haight, a neighborhood newspaper focused on San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district.

In 1999 he joined the Financial Times' San Francisco bureau fulltime to help expand the newspaper's coverage of US technology markets and Silicon Valley. He left the Financial Times in 2004 and continues to write columns on Silicon Valley for the Financial Times, and on his personal site, SiliconValleyWatcher.com.

Om Malik is a senior writer for San Francisco-based magazine, Business 2.0. Previously, he was a Senior Writer for Red Herring and Forbes.com. Prior to his stint at Red Herring, he was an investment manager at H&Q Asia Pacific, a venture capital arm of Hambrecht & Quist, focused on investments in the Asia Pacific region. He was also a founding member of Forbes.com. He has contributed his writings to respected publications like Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist and the MIT Technology Review.

Om has spent over a dozen years tracking the business of broadband. From scientists inventing photonic processors to a lone coder hacking together the perfect music software, Om knows them all, and has a pulse on the beat of broadband. He is author of Broadbandits: Inside the $750 Billion Telecom Heist, a book described by The Economist as the best “book about the telecom bubble.” He lives and works in San Francisco, California.

Dan Gillmor, founder and president of Bayosphere, literally wrote the book on the rise of citizens' media (“We, the Media: Grassroots Journalism by the People, for the People” O’Rielly) Before launching Bayosphere, Gillmor was a key tech columnist and reporter at the San Jose Mercury News, Silicon Valley's daily newspaper for 10 years. He joined the Mercury News after six years with the Detroit Free Press. Dan was the first well-known columnist to launch a blog (at Siliconvalley.com), and is one of the most read and respected bloggers in the world.
